Description:
There are several varieties of Rhubarb. However, the only one used in herbal preparations is rheum palmatum. It is native to India and grows at very high altitudes.
Dosage:
As a decoction, add 1/2 tsp root to 1 cup water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer for 10 minutes. Drink twice daily.
As a powder, take 1 gram as a laxative.
As a tincture, take 1-2 ml daily.
Safety:
Do not use rhubarb if you are pregnant. The leaves of the plant are poisonous and should not be eaten. Don't take rhubarb if you're suffering from any chronic disease. Take only under medical supervision. Consult your health care provider before beginning use of any herb.
