Background: Yerba santa means holy weed. It was primarily used by Native Americans and, later, by Spanish settlers. The leaves were used as an infusion to treat upper respiratory infections. In addition, they were used to treat fever and externally to treat sores. Now it is mainly used for upper respiratory conditions.

Yerba santa is also an excellent tea. To make Santa tea, put one teaspoon of the herb into a muslin bag and put it in a cup of boiling hot water. Cover the cup and let it steep for five minutes.
