Background: Used in China for centuries according to records over 200 years old. Classified by Shen Nong, who founded Chinese herbal medicine, as a superior herb. Its Chinese name, Huang Qi, means "yellow leader" because of the yellow hue of the root.
Applications: Antiviral/Endurance/Fluid Maintenance
Antiviral: Its warming qualities help the circulation of the body, which means it works to ease cold symptoms or other viruses that enter the body. It works to restore the immune system of the body - especially in the lungs. Immune disorders that lead to sweating are eased with the use of Astragalus and cancer patients have a healthier outlook due to the immune benefits. Angelica Root and African Bird Pepper also act as warming agents helping increase blood circulation in the system.
Endurance: Known for its ability to restore the energy levels of young healthy people, it is also used to assist ill people in regaining their energy. As the immune system is restored, the person taking it has improved physical endurance.
Fluid Maintenance: Because it helps circulation in the body, it is able to relieve excessive sweating and fluid retention. People notice a diminished thirst level when taking Astragalus. Also relieves night sweats and hot flashes caused by menopause.

Description:
Grown in China in sandy soil and lots of sunlight, its roots are collected after growing for four to seven years and dried when they're harvested in the spring. There are more than 2,000 types worldwide.
Dosage:
Best used when the person adds it daily to their diet in health, instead of waiting for sickness. Take 9-15 grams per day.
Powder: Take 2-3 capsule per day.
Tincture: Take 3-5 ml three times a day. For night sweats, take 1 teaspoon 1-2 times a day with water.
Extract: Root is made into a liquid herbal extract by boiling the root and brewing into a tea.
Root: Sliced up, it can be added to liquid meals such as soups or chewed on like licorice.
Safety:
Do not use Astragalus if you suffer from skin disorders.
