Background: Eucalyptus has been used by the Aboriginese people of Australia as a medication for respiratory infections. It's now used commonly in medications that are used to treat cough and cold symptoms. Reasearch has shown that eucalpytus has antiseptic properties.
Eucalyptus is also known for it's warming effect. That's what makes it so nice when you rub eucalyptus oil all over the chest during a cold. It provides soothing comfort.
Applications:Expectorat/Antiseptic/Pain Relief
Eucalyptus is most commonly used to treat respiratory congestion.
Chest congestion: Eucalyptus is an expectorant that helps to break up mucus.
Infection: Eucalyptus can be used to treat infections as well as fever.
Warming: Eucalyptus can be applied ot the chest or face to sooth pain and pressure from infections and congestion.
Joint pain: Eucalyptus oil can also be diluted and rubbed onto joints to relieve pain from inflammation.
Description:
The eucalyptus plant is native to Australia. It is an evergreen tree that can grow very tall - as high as 300 feet. It has green leaves. The leaves can be harvested year round. The tree requires large amounts of water to grow and can deprive surrounding plants of the necessary nutrients.
Eucalyptus Dosage:
As a tincture, take 1/2 tsp with 100 ml water, 2 times a day for cough.
Essential oil can be diluted and applied to the chest or face for pain relief. 10 drops may also be added to boiling water to create a soothing vapor.
Eucalyptus lozenges are commercially available to sooth sore throats.
Eucalyptus Capsules can also be taken for bronchitis. The usual dosage is 200 mg 3 times daily.
