Our Handcrafted Book of Shadows is custom built for you, to your specifications. You choose the cover color, page paper, endpaper (decorative paper in the front of the book), clasp style (if desired), and colors of silk ribbon bookmarks. You can even have extra pages added when you order.
Our books are hand crafted from beginning to end. We cut our own pages, spine & coverboard, and cloth. Pages are sewn into signatures (the little books within books you've probably noticed if you've looked at the end of an upscale book), so your book lies flat when you write in it, not like those books that are cropping up everywhere that just have their pages glued to the spine! Covers are double layered, for a total 1/4 inch thick archival bookboard, to stand up to use and protect their contents, and are covered with soft, supple deerskin leather. Your pages are securely fastened with linen to the covers. Spines are flexible for durability, and not attached to the pages so they will not crack when your book is opened. This makes them more athentically old-world, and allows additional flexibility for flat writing/reading of a 1000 page book. Head bands and tail bands are provided to keep dust at bay. Your choice of decorative endpapers line the inside of front & back covers. A second coordinating endpaper between the decorative endpaper and your pages prevents wear and tear on your decorative endpaper. Your choice of 3 - 18 inch 100% silk ribbons (Salmonberry through Aurora Borealis are hand-dyed) are secured to the spine. These are the same methods used in books of antiquity, and in restoring valuable tomes.
Are they a little more expensive than another book you've found out there? Maybe. But, isn't the peace of mind that comes with knowing your book is handcrafted in old world styling, without taking shortcuts in construction, or isn't mass produced, worth a little extra investment? If you choose a clasp for your book of shadows a matching band secures your book together. Genii Cloth is made of silk or part rayon and cotton, these are the most luxurious and finely woven of the Japanese bookbinding fabrics.
Custom Books of Shadows: 9 inches wide x 12 inches tall page size. Overall book size is approximately 10 x 13 x 3-1/2 inches. 500 sheets (1000 pages). Your Custom Book of Shadows weighs about 11 pounds. Signature is required on delivery for this item.
