Dowsing has existed in various forms for thousands of years. Some say the original purpose may have been to divine the will of the gods, to fortell the future, and to divine guilt in trials. Dowsing as a practice today probably originated in Germany during the 1400's when it was used to find metals. The technique spread to England and the intentions grew from metals, to water, to even locating weapons and tunnels in the late 1960's. Equipment ranges from rods, to wands, to pendulums.
